As part of the Benjamin Baker: Bridging the World project over 2,000 children from 14 first, middle & primary schools in and around Frome will be taking part in 74 Mad Science workshops examining ideas behind engineering.
Tremendous Towers
Key Stage One pupils will be learning about masonry and stability by building ‘Tremendous Towers’ from sugar cubes with and without icing sugar mortar. Will they stand? Will they fall? Will they be eaten?
Brilliant Bridges
Key Stage Two pupils will be examining different bridge types and constructing their own ‘Brilliant Bridges’ from drinking straws, lolly sticks, blu-tak. At the end of the session the bridges will be loaded to destruction to determine which is strongest.
